Press Release 30/06/2011
The Eisenhower Research Project of the Brown's University Watson Institute in the US has published a new study that the Bush Obamawars in Afghanistan and Iraq have directly killed 225,000 peopel and cost up to $4 trillion. The figure does not include the cost of war related debts which could be an extra $1 trillion.
In response, Roger Cole, Chair of PANA said:
"The Bush-Obama Wars have cost at least 225,000 lives and $4 trillion. They need to come to an end now. Apart from causing such mass
suffering, they are bankrupting the US itself. The Irish political elites decision to support these wars by allowed over two million US troops
land in Shannon Airport, and by sending Irish troops to Afghanistan, could turn out to be a decision that makes the bank bail out a fantastic
one in comparison, especially if the US economy implodes as a consequence of its inability to pay for them due their shrinking tax base
and an unwillingness of investors to buy US bonds of no agreement is reached over the US budget cap.
Those of us that have opposed these wars, unlike the Irish political/media elite, are in fact, the pro-American people in Ireland. On the
2nd Sunday in July we will again be holding our demonstration in favour of the peace & the American people at 2.30pm at the
Shannon Roundabout and we encourage all seek peace and a sustainable economy through ending these wars and Ireland's support for
them to join us"
